About This Activity
Listen and Draw is an interactive educational exercise where participants listen to spoken instructions and illustrate what they hear. It’s widely used in language learning (especially ESL/EFL), early childhood education, and listening skill development.
How to Play
- Provide each participant with a blank sheet of paper and drawing tools (pencil, crayons, etc.).
- Read aloud a set of descriptive instructions (e.g., “Draw a big red apple on the left side of your paper”).
- Participants should listen carefully and draw only what they hear—no talking or looking at others’ work!
- After all instructions are given, compare drawings and discuss differences.
Tips for Teachers & Parents
• Start with simple instructions and gradually increase complexity.
• Use clear, slow speech—especially for language learners.
• Encourage creativity; there’s no single “correct” drawing.
• Great for building focus, vocabulary, and following directions.
